Performance & Reliability

What languages does it support?

English is the default and most fully developed language for AI call agents. Most businesses deploy an English-only configuration. However, depending on your needs and configuration, the agent can support a wide range of additional languages — including Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, and many more.

Adding a language to your configuration is handled by the DirectCall AI team. The process involves setting up a language-specific knowledge base (the same information your English agent knows, translated and adapted for cultural context), selecting a suitable voice in that language, and testing the conversation flows with native-speaker review. Depending on complexity, a new language can typically be activated within a few business days.

Automatic language detection is available for businesses that serve callers across multiple languages and don't want callers to navigate a language menu. When enabled, the agent detects the language the caller is speaking within the first few words and switches to that language seamlessly — without asking the caller to press 1 for English. This is particularly valuable for businesses in multilingual cities or regions where callers may default to their preferred language without thinking about it.

Multilingual support has the clearest ROI in a few specific industries. Restaurants and food businesses often serve communities where Spanish, Cantonese, or Vietnamese is the primary language for a significant portion of their customer base. Healthcare providers in urban areas frequently receive calls in languages other than English — and for medical contexts, language barriers have real consequences. Logistics and delivery companies working with non-English-speaking drivers or clients also benefit substantially. In all of these cases, a multilingual AI agent removes friction and captures business that would otherwise be lost to a language gap.

If you're unsure whether multilingual support is relevant for your business, the demo process is a good place to explore it. The DirectCall AI team can walk you through what a bilingual or multilingual configuration would look like for your specific use case, and what it would take to implement.
